About Us

Welcome to My Dad’s Cookies Gluten Free Cookies!

My Dad’s Cookies was created in 2010 with the hope of providing children with celiac disease the option to eat cookies that look and taste like the favorites they can no longer have. Children and adults alike will not have to avoid the dessert table at birthday parties or family gatherings any longer. Through our refined design and taste, our cookies don’t look or taste any different than products that contain gluten. As a parent, I was always concerned about bullying and often times kids with allergies are targeted because of the extra attention they need when it comes to the food they can consume. However, we strive to take away the pressure of needing “special cookies”.

Using the best ingredients, we have created a product that is allergy friendly towards several different dietary restrictions, including lactose free, nut free and Kosher. After three years of countless hours spent perfecting our recipes, My Dad’s Cookies was established with the ultimate goal of continuing to help and support those with celiac disease. — Elan Malina

“My Dad’s Cookies” Gluten Free Cookies have arrived at Zabar’s!

Over the years I have tasted a lot of packaged cookies for the purposes of professional evaluation (It’s not as fun as it sounds; I’ve tasted a lot more duds than delights in my day). I have come to the conclusion that it is not easy to make a gluten-free cookie that is really nice to eat. Not easy at all. And these are really and truly good. So in my professional opinion, this is a significant achievement.My_Dad's_Cookies_logo
Gluten is a protein, prevalent in wheat and related species. It is what gives baked goods their structure and texture, so while it was always possible to use real butter, eggs, sugar and vanilla to make gluten-free cookies, texture was, and remains, the biggest challenge.

My Dad’s Cookies are the first gluten-free cookies I have ever tasted that I didn’t think tasted like gluten-free cookies. It’s no wonder, since these are the recipes of a Dad on a mission to develop cookie recipes for his child with celiac disease. Each cookie recipe requires a different mix of gluten-free flours to get the right texture. So, the crisp Linzers have a different formula than the chewy Chocolate Chips. This attention to detail is why these cookies work. An unrelated but nice bonus is that these are locally produced just 30 miles away in Brooklyn, NY.

Currently, Zabar’s carries 6 My Dad’s Cookies varieties, including Raspberry Linzer (my personal favorite for the great raspberry flavor), Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Fancy, Chocolate Sandwich, Cranberry Biscotti, Black & White, and Chocolatta. $6.98/6oz. They are currently displayed in the front of the store, just to the right of the customer service counter. Check them out the next time you’re in!

There is no gluten in a typical piece of chocolate, so those with gluten sensitivities can enjoy a chocolate Easter bunny—and jelly beans, too. Your gluten-sensitive loved ones might just prefer an Easter basket filled with My Dad’s cookies. — Karen Hochman

The large selection of classic cookie types mean you won’t get tired of any one style.

They taste as good as the “real thing,” and can be served to an entire group of family and guests without anyone noticing a difference.

Symptoms of gluten sensitivity include gastrointestinal problems, headaches, fatigue and other reactions. In addition, some 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease, a serious condition that can lead to malnutrition and osteoporosis. People can go for decades without exhibiting symptoms, only to have the disease suddenly trigger.
